Sleep Stages

Each night, your body cycles through different stages of sleep that restore and refresh you.

Sleep Stages Overview

Light Sleep

Light sleep is the transition between wakefulness and deeper sleep. Your muscles relax, heart rate slows, and body temperature drops.

Deep Sleep

Deep sleep is the most restorative stage. Tissue growth and repair occur, energy is replenished, and the immune system strengthens.

REM Sleep

REM sleep is when dreaming occurs. The brain consolidates memories, processes emotions, and supports learning and creativity.

Cycle Through the Night

On average, adults cycle through these stages 4–6 times per night. Balanced sleep is key to feeling refreshed.
